Crude oil storage tanks design

At present, the development trend of crude oil storage tanks scale is larger and larger. The largest crude oil tank in the world is 250,000 m³, 100,000 m³ crude oil storage tanks have been common and they will be the main size now or in the future.

Fixed Roof Tanks : Fixed roof tanks are the simplest and most common type of crude oil storage tanks. They have a cone or dome-shaped roof that is permanently attached to the tank shell. These tanks are suitable for storing low-pressure crude oil and are typically used for short-term storage. However, they are not ideal for storing volatile crude oils because they do not provide protection against vapor emissions.

Floating Roof Tanks  Floating roof tanks have a floating roof that rises and falls with the level of the stored crude oil. The floating roof helps minimize vapor emissions and reduce the risk of evaporation, making these tanks suitable for storing volatile crude oils. There are two main types of floating roof tanks: external floating roof tanks (EFRTs) and internal floating roof tanks (IFRTs). EFRTs have a roof that floats on the surface of the stored oil, while IFRTs have a fixed roof with a floating deck that rests on the surface of the oil.

Bullet Tanks : Bullet tanks, also known as horizontal tanks or cylindrical tanks, are cylindrical-shaped storage vessels with rounded ends. They are commonly used for storing crude oil in above-ground facilities, especially in locations where space is limited. Bullet tanks are available in various sizes and can be designed for both atmospheric and pressurized storage, depending on the specific requirements of the crude oil being stored.

Underground Storage Tanks (USTs)  Underground storage tanks are buried beneath the ground and are commonly used for storing crude oil and other petroleum products. USTs are often made of steel or fiberglass and are designed to withstand environmental conditions such as corrosion and soil movement. These tanks offer advantages such as space savings, reduced visual impact, and protection against vandalism and theft.

Design first stage

Initially our senior design engineer prepare 'Design data sheet' with consider all aspects of inputs provided by customer, In this stage both senior design engineer & customer work together finalize design data sheet(all required inputs} .   , This will help reduce metal consumption and avoid a lot of mistakes & time consumption . Because Wisd Engineering have a 25 years experience in tank design.

Design second stage,  Calculations

We provide exact thickness for shell,  from bottom shell course to top shell course, bottom plate and roof plate As per API 650 guide lines. to  reduce metal consumption, thus saving the Customer’s money, Because major weight of tank from these three items

We are accurate in calculating weights.

Tank stability :  Vertical  field erected storage tanks large in diameter & Weight. So this tanks effected by wind  and seismic( Earthquake)  forces. We provide complete checking with these forces , If necessary we provide wind girders , tank anchorage and seismic free board height.

Internal pressure & External pressures : If your tank have small internal pressures & Vacuum , Our    designer shell care about this pressures and provide require calculations. 

Tank Heating coils : If your tank require liquid heating , We provide related calculations & separate drawings for this. 

Tank roof support structure : We provide complete roof structure calculations , rafters, girders, columns, truss supports, doom roofs with latest software's.
